Dear Diary ,

Hi! I am Mary Allison Hegi. I am a senior at SMU in Dallas,TX…but most of all, I am a student of life.

As an innately Type-A individual, I often find myself in a 1 vs. 1 match with myself. In High School, I struggled with an eating disorder that led me to put up walls between the person I was portraying to the outside world and my true self. Through years of doing the work and healing from my disorder, I broke down the beliefs and patterns that had ruled my world for years. Yet, after all of the walls had crumbled down, I was left with an abandoned home. Who was I without the thoughts and actions that took up 99.9% of my life?

In my journey to rediscovery, I began to fall in love with the glimmers of life. The little moments that sparked joy in my daily life. While these micro-moments seemed small, they acted as road signs to my highest self. I came across thought leaders like Mel Robbins and Louise Hay and became fascinated by the idea that we have the power to claim a great life. I fell in love with cooking meals that nourish my mind and body… and the list goes on.

Through The Mary Diaries, I aim to provide resources to inspire others to add a glimmer of light into each and every day. With each ray of light, each moment you become lost in an activity, eat a yummy recipe, move your body in a way that feels good to you, you are taking one step closer to becoming your best self. This is our lives and we only get one of them, so let’s discover who we are and have fun doing it!
